After defense of my PhD in Biological Sciences I decided to continue with Post-doctoral research in Brazil. I examined several web-sites of University laboratories in Brazil and I got into UNICAMP (in Campinas city, state of Sao Paulo). I sent an e-mail to the head of the chosen lab, containing several questions about the work in the lab, my CV and short previous research profile of mine. In the next day I had an answer from the professor that I would receive all documents needed for studying visa application in the Embassy. The arrangement of the documents didn’t take too much time and in three months after I found the laboratory I was in Campinas.
When I came, I was introduced to all the colleagues in the Institute and accepted very kindly and friendly. Almost off my colleagues helped me with arrangement of the other documents in the Federal Police in Campinas. The procedure of obtaining the specific numbers for legal stay in Brazil (CPF and RNA) was slow and really disappointing. Additionally all my colleagues helped me with other documents for opening a bank account and starting of the Portuguese classes. In my opinion the bureaucracy of this beautiful country is shocking. The Brazilian people themselves complain of that. But still, I have wonderful colleagues and friends who did not allow me to run alone in this mess.
The department and the institute where I do my post-doctoral research have expensive and professional technics and it seems that Brazilian country invest for the world science. The collaborations with all the colleagues in the lab are open and clear, good conducted and the results are productive. We have a lot of scientific lab meeting, where we try to collect and analyze all the results with consecutive conclusions. A lot of visiting scientists from different Universities in Brazil and USA visit the department of Biology and we exchange experience and knowledge.
When I came in Brazil I could notice that public transportation is not very well developed and somehow it is an obstacle for the students and all the people that do not have car.
As a conclusion of this article I can express my good impressions from the kind (and always smiling) Brazilian people, always ready for help; the beautiful flora and fauna, the tropic nature that is surprising with all the colors and fantastic forms.
